Here we have a young girl holding a rose. As you can see I have a tendency to make big heads and small bodies and yes, there are those big eyes again jejeje. I don’t do this on purpose, it just comes out this way. It could be because I start out with the head first and then move on to the body. I have to work on sketching the whole character first.

From the start I had in mind brading her hair so it’s the reason I started with the head. The color choice was basically to match with the purple used for her dress.

Since I didn’t want her having her arms hanging around I thought it would be best that she’d be holding a flower. The rose seemed simple to do, but I needed a reference on how to draw roses and found this one. As you can see it looks very similar.

The body I’m not quite content with. This due to the limited features you have with the app Inkpad; like not having sublayers which makes it a bit difficult to work with details. You end up with so many layers just to avoid affecting a certain object as well as having a very long layers panel. Even tough it is a bit limited I really like this app because you can work using vectors and it is very similar to Illustrator.

As for the legs I used the following reference and added socks and shoes.

I didn’t put much thought into the shapes of the background, but I chose green because it’s my moms favorite color and goes well with purple which is mine =).

In the end, it’s sort of like putting a puzzle together.

Thank you for sharing, I really enjoyed your description of your technique in your creation of “Young Girl Holding a Rose”. She is adorable my favorite is her inward-twist of her foot a form of innocents as she plans to hand over her Rose to someone special.

That was my intention. Thanks 🙂
